Used successfully with notebook Razer Stealth to connect a 34" ultra-wide monitor and to power a laptop. The port got warm during charging, but not critical. I rarely used the USB port, just power and HDMI. When I switched to the HP Spectre, I noticed that running the same monitor and turning the laptop on caused the port to get even hotter - possibly using more power. The plastic case actually melted when I plugged in a USB drive and started using the Transferring 100GB of data started - the USB port went out first so be careful if you're using all three ports under load, it might be worth checking out the one with the metal case if you want to push it to the limit.
