Review on Arc International Luminarc Bolero 16 Ounce by Jenny Smith

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good for everyday use

A few years ago I bought a set of 4 Arc International Luminarc Bolero mugs. The first time it was washed in the dishwasher (top rack, normal wash), the upper edge of one cup broke off (peeled off). So I threw this mug in the trash and decided the mugs weren't that durable and didn't buy any more. But the remaining three cups have been used every day since (hot coffee, hot tea) and have held up well without incident, so I figured the one broken cup might have been an aberration. So I just bought a second set of these mugs. As you can see in the second and third photos, the old set (left circle in the second photo) has a greenish tint on the glass, while the new set has a more colorless appearance. So this is a warning that mugs from different batches will have different hues and may not exactly match previous purchases. I filled one of the cups to the brim with two different glass measuring cups, and the cup held 15-16 ounces, depending on which measuring cup I used (this shows that some measuring cups are a bit inaccurate). The cups also feature subtle lines from the molds used to make them, giving the impression of everyday glassware rather than fine glassware. When loaded (upside down) in the dishwasher, the bottom of the cups have grooves where water collects. Emptying each base is inconvenient when I empty the cups after running the dishwasher, but it's not as bad as some of the other glass cups I have (from a different manufacturer). In general, these are good everyday mugs.
