It was important

Very necessary, I have an old house with classic glass door handles (love them btw) but they ALWAYS seem to fail and fall off at the worst possible moment. I installed the handles, but that undesirably changed the look. Once installed, it really made a difference. They seem sturdy and haven't let her down since.
