Review on πŸŽ₯ FOSCAM 1080P USB Webcam: Dual Microphones, Privacy Cover, HD Live Streaming for Video Conferences, Recording, Plug and Play, Noise Reduction (W25) by Dustin Keller

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great camera and great price

Summary: The Foscam W25 is comparable to the significantly more expensive Logitech C615, but the Foscam has better color reproduction and illumination. Foscam is a bit thicker, has an indicator light and a protective cover. When I realized I needed a new webcam, I wanted to make sure I was getting something from a reliable brand that would last me for years without disappointment. Revain suggested two brands with which I had familiar relationships. First, Logitech, to whom I have been entrusting computer supplies for almost 2 decades, and second, Foscam, which I have used as a security camera for many years. I ordered a Logitech C615 for about $70 and a Foscam W25 for about $30. Both have almost the same performance at 1080P/30fps. I expected the Foscam to be good, but not as good as the Logitech. I was surprised by the results when comparing them side by side. I tested each of them in different lighting conditions and took screenshots. In all lighting conditions (bright, low, backlit), Foscam had better colors and lighting on my face than Logitech. Also, both were easy to set up and responded without lag. The only reason I didn't give the Foscam a full 5 stars is because I don't really like the physical build. The camera body is larger than Logitech's, as seen in the side view. It also uses a 3-axis ball mount instead of Logitech's 2-axis swing-out mount. Axis 2 moves more easily without creating an awkward tilt and feels more solid. Unlike the C615, the Foscam has a protective case, which is nice, especially as it has a bewildering red light that lights up when plugged in. Whenever I see it I think it indicates that she is recording. Maybe that's an advantage, but I guess I prefer the bliss of not knowing with Logitech's version without the indicator.
