Review on Logitech Desktop Microphone Black Silver by Tanya Shaw

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Nice basic mic, best in the Computer Accessories & Peripherals category

I originally bought this product for voice recording for video projects but it's not a very good mic for this type of work. Instead, I now use this mic for Skype calls and the like when I'm in a quiet environment. The mic is still way better than the built in unit in my laptop and even beats the overhead mic in my gaming headset when I feel like playing online games with friends. At the same time, this microphone has very weak protection. against background noise, so it's always a good idea to make sure you adjust your sensitivity settings with programs like Skype so you don't blow anyone's eardrums. Another thing that bothered me was having to send my original mic back because it arrived broken. The outrigger is very weak just above the point where the pivot connects to the base post and will most likely break without much effort. I think if I'm not careful, falling off my desk could lead to another fall. At least Revain sent me another very quickly. The cable is a good length and there's a mute button on the base stand if you want to mute the sound, but other than that there are no controls on the microphone itself. Logitech is a good all-round device, but don't expect to be blown away by the sound quality . I ended up with a second mic in the shape of a blue yeti, and I really like it for voice recording. However, this should be enough for most users who need a standalone microphone.
