Fits and works in my 1997 BMW 528i with M52 engine

This solved my charging problems. It was a direct match to my 4/97 build of my 1997 BMW 528i. The alternator I pulled out was a 140 amp Bosch. My Bentley manual says to pull out the radiator fan and fan cover, but that's not necessary. Unlock the car, disconnect the battery. Pull out the airbox, unscrew the power steering fluid reservoir bolts (leave the hoses connected). I watched an online video of this repair and he removed the upper radiator hose from the driver's side water pump. This caused a bit of chaos as about half a liter of liquid was spilled on the straps. I did that too, but I think if you have a liquid pump you can first remove some liquid from the antifreeze reservoir and then pull the hose. it would be cleaner. Remove the caps from the belt tensioner and alternator bolts. Both alternator bolts and the belt tensioner are 16mm, you can also use a 5/8" Sae head. Tension the belt and remove. Disconnect the wires from the back of the alternator. Remove the alternator bolts. Pull remove it Install the new alternator in reverse order.
