I don't know why but as soon as I started adding this to my bird food it stopped plucking! and is willing to try almost anything to solve the problem. He seemed so unhappy! When it came time to order seeds (his staple food is pellets) I started ordering the same item as last time. But then I realized that I had ordered this particular product a few months ago, so I decided to use it again. I will never switch to anything else again! I don't need to know why, all I know is that my bird has stopped plucking and we are HAPPY
