We don't have a trash compactor, but we bought these bags to line our backpacks for hiking. They work amazing. Very durable, keeps items in our bags dry in heavy rain, good size. I have a 55L backpack and the bag takes up almost the entire package, the magazine is a couple of inches from the top. Fits in my sleeping bag (rather bulky), sleeping pad, pillow (also bulky), spare clothes, down jacket and electronics bag with more than enough space to safely roll them up. It takes some effort to pierce, but it's possible, so I'd keep them in your backpack. A great price compared to what outdoor stores try to charge for "liners". A bag weighs 2.4 ounces on my scale. At forty packs and shelf life, I doubt we'll be buying them again for a while, but when the time comes I'll definitely be buying them again.
