To be honest, I was very skeptical about the additional price of the Freud Forstner bits. I've been using a Porter Cable Kit for years, which costs a lot less, and have been quite happy with the results. I usually had to grind, but I found it ok. When I needed a size that wasn't in my kit I ordered a cheaper tip but decided to find out if Freud's tips were really as good as the hype. Well they are! Just look at the photos I've attached and tagged. I drilled through a 4x4 piece of pine using a porter cable and a Freud bit. The jagged edge on Freud is really important. The sides are so clean, even made of soft pine, that they don't need sanding at all. I think there really is something about the old adage you get what you pay for, at least in this case. From now on I will be buying Freud beats and I have no hesitation in recommending you do the same if you want quality.
