Review on Portable Document Scanner: Visioneer Patriot P15 by Walter Martin

Revainrating 3 out of 5

A step back to earlier visioneer products

I have been using various visioneer products since 1998. I liked the design and the software that came with the scanner. My last Paperport scanner, the Strobe 500, died after 3 years of use. Because of incompatibility with Windows X, I switched to the Patriot P15, which seemed to me to be the most similar model. I would say that it is generally similar to my previous flash. There are a few quirks with the software that I don't like, but nothing to rate the product for. I am deducting 1 star because this scanner is $50 more than my previous Strobe 500 and offers nothing additional to this scanner, in fact this scanner cannot be removed from the base so it may have fewer capabilities. I took off another star for the general impression that it's cheap. The paper guides are now double plastic pieces that don't stay open well and don't slide well. Overall it appears to be of lower quality than the previous Strobe 500 but costs more. Do I buy another one if this one breaks? Only if the other company doesn't make a sheet scanner with similar software.
