Review on πŸ–€ 1-Step Black Wrought Iron Outdoor Handrail for Steps - Enhancing Accessibility and Safety by Anthony Gupta

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Well made but crappy anchor bolts

The railing itself is of excellent quality and well finished. It's easy to assemble. This can be done by one person but is easier with a second pair of hands. Big Grip is the type of anchor bolts that come with the concrete step installation kit. If I had to do it all over again I would throw out the ones that came with the kit and get better ones from a hardware store. I have years of experience installing large blocks in concrete for large installations in manufacturing plants, so I know they are not all made equal. It's ultra cheesy. The masonry drill that comes with it is also lousy. Again, do yourself a favor, use better quality tips if you have them, or buy a small set. Trust me, this gear requires you to drill an anchor bolt hole to almost exactly the right depth. If you go too shallow and hammer on the anchor, it won't sit far enough for the leg plate to sit on. Good luck pulling it out to drill it deeper. If you go in too deep, the threaded end of the nut will be so short that it won't go through the base plate and you won't be able to put the nut on. If this happens without the leg sitting on it, just slip a washer and nut onto the stud bolt and thread it down the concrete to pry it out of the hole a bit. You'll get some movement before it starts to tighten and snap into the hole. Enough to give you a slightly more unsecured thread. Another tip: If you don't have a hammer drill, buy one. They make it easier to drill holes in concrete or brick. I have a small one that's under a hundred dollars and even has a switch for hammering while drilling or just a regular drill bit. So based on the quality and look of the railings and the way they bolt together I would easily give 5 stars. , and for being rock solid once anchored to concrete steps without hesitation or movement. Only let down by the anchor gear which gave me too much heartache. Read the dimensions carefully and measure the installation area. Not all concrete steps are poured at the same "depth" front and back where your foot is. Pay particular attention to the length of the top rail where it extends beyond the top leg towards the house or door frame. It's quite long, and you may find that the gap pushes the shin too much toward the outside edge of the bottom tier. Just something to note. Mine was close but worked.
