Smell of vomit on yarn

I had high hopes for this yarn, it was soft and easy to knit with, I even knitted very nice socks out of it. The problem occurred when I put my socks on and after I took them off they smelled like vomit. I tried airing them out and they still smelled. Then I washed them according to the manufacturer's instructions and they still smelled. I am very disappointed that I have this product.

SPECIFICATIONS: Weight class: DK. Recommended needles: US 5-7 (3.75-4.5mm). Approximately 109 yards/100 meters per ball (327 yards/300 meters total). 1.76 oz/50 grams per skein. The fiber composition of the yarn is 50% alpaca, 5% wool and 45% acrylic.
