Our gray parrot has destroyed all previous toys; but not this one. This keeps him busy and seems fascinated by them every morning. Yes, opening/closing is difficult and uncomfortable for us. but our African gray is indistinguishable. Getting these toys to feed was a thrill! ********* UPDATE ********* (After three weeks of use) Our afro gray plastic ball broke @ the slot next to the screw connection (weakest point). It was great while it lasted, but the parrot found "the weakest link". not the manufacturer's best design ******* UPDATE #2 ***** (after purchasing 5 pieces in a row) Our African Gray needs to be tested or it will be boring and destructive. He loves this food ball. We learned that each food ball lasts about 90 days before it can destroy it. A light lubricating of the screw connection with petroleum jelly is required to achieve the 90 day duration. Lubrication makes opening and closing the bait ball easier (although the secret is opening and closing the bait ball with two screwdrivers, each going through slots in either half of the bait ball). To sum up, for this poorly constructed bait ball to last around 90 days, it requires a light lubrication so that the two halves of the ball can seal tightly every time
