I use this item regularly to keep my soda cool on my desk and next to my reading chair. I like my soda cold, and the cold temperature helps preserve the soda. (I used to use an electric "can cooler" to keep my soda cold while I was running, but soda bottles are much larger in circumference and don't fit in can coolers.) As for the complaints about chilling a bottle of wine at room temperature it needs too long. When using this for wine, I first chill the wine to temperature and then use a cooler to hold it.
