This thermometer sucks. The main problem is how far you have to immerse yourself in the water. You need to cover at least half to get consistent results. However, if I dip further (e.g. 3/4 or more) the temperature is higher. For this to be effective you need to calibrate it to a specific liquid depth and make sure you cover that much liquid with each measurement. In addition, the dial is small and the readings are mostly inaccurate. They just spread the numbers evenly; However, if you calibrate this for cooking, 100 degrees isn't where the 100 degree mark is, it's near the 130 degree mark. And forget it in cold temperatures. Spend another $10 and get an open-box Thermoworks pocket thermometer that's as accurate as Thermapen and way more useful than it. My first one also arrived crushed, although the shipping box was fine.
