Review on Efficient Performance with the WIX 57002 Oil Filter: A Must-Have for Your Engine by Mariealphonse Seattle

Quality control and filter testing

The filter itself had a small dent on the side and debris on the end cap and thread. Also the glue used on the relief valve is splattered all over the place which isn't necessarily a problem but does indicate poor workmanship. Foreign objects were also found there. It looked like some kind of black grid. Didn't bother to take it off to have a closer look because I have to send it back for a refund. I've never had any issues with previous Wix products. Update: Printing failed on this Wix filter. Today I changed the oil and noticed that something leaked out from under the shaft seal. I'm not sure how much was lost, but I measured about 1/4 quart; Some of what was lost might also be burned. My 6 Series has 90,000 miles and has had 5,000 oil changes to start with. This was the only oil filter failure I've had and the only Wix I've used. Other filters used were OEM (various part numbers) and Fram Ultra Synthetic. Do yourself and your Skyactiv a favor and stick with the OEM filters. For the record, I didn't like the Fram, but its design is slightly different from Mazda's.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Long delivery time
