Review on Double-Sided Carpet Tape For Indoor Use By IPG, 1.88 Inches X 36 Yards (2-Pack) by Trey Dikici

Finally, a carpet tape that works!

We have gone through several different mats and carpet tapes to try to keep a rug secured to the carpet below it. Our most recent attempt, and the one that had been the most successful, was a thick foam-type tape. It worked great at the beginning, but over time and traffic, the thick type began rolling over itself, causing lumps under the rug and making the it completely ineffective at actually doing its job.I tried this tape on a whim after reading good reviews here. This is a thin, paper-based tape - no thicker than masking tape. It has a strong adhesive on both sides, but one that can be removed with a little force and without damaging surfaces. I put in a varying pattern all over the bottom of the rug, installing strips that went both against and with the typical traffic patterns. It has worked like a charm! Because of how thin it is, it doesn't catch or roll on itself with foot traffic. The rug hasn't moved an inch, hasn't bunched, and there are no lumps to be found. This stuff is amazing! There is also a ton of it on a roll. I had gotten two rolls based on other reviewers saying that they needed to use a lot. I covered probably 50% of the bottom of a 4' x 6' rug, and I still have at least two thirds of a roll left. I know this will eventually become less sticky and I'll need to replace the tape, and there is plenty for me to do that.

Pros
  • Good initial tack allowing immediate, permanent bond to a variety of surfaces
Cons
  • The tape may not be strong enough for heavy objects or high-traffic areas
