This lens is a bit soft at 300mm, wide open but gets sharper at f8 and f11. In low light the autofocus seems unreliable compared to my other Tamrom lenses, particularly the exquisite f2.8 70-200 VC. But it's a lot lighter than my Nikon 200-500, making it perfect for photographing ducks waddling across the lake.
