I bought a smart TV and other internet enabled components for our living room. Like others, I've found that the most convenient viewing location isn't very suitable for internal Wi-Fi. I either waited forever for access or encountered long pauses in promoting sites. I've seen a lot of people have had success with this powerline product and thought it was worth a try. After the installation, which took about 15 minutes, I was able to get started. The XAV5001 plugs into a power outlet and the Ethernet cable plugs into a free port on the router. The XAV5004 plugs into the wall next to your devices, with 4 ports available for connection. I have a green powerline light that indicates a speed greater than 80 Mbps. I found the response times to be very good and the only thing that slowed me down was getting used to the interface of my Smart TV. I also have several devices that have an internet connection for various applications and firmware updates. I currently have a Samsung TV, Apple TV, Roku, Blu-ray player, Wii and an AV receiver. Samsung TV, Apple TV and Roku are used for video streaming and occupy ports 1, 2 and 3 of the XAV5004. I connected the last port (4) of the XAV5004 to a Netgear GS105 switch which has 5 ports, 1 is connected to the XAV5004 and the other 4 are open for use. I use 3 of these ports connected to Blu-Ray, AV Receiver and Wii. I've used the switch to update the firmware and it works great. I feel more secure using a wired connection for firmware updates. I also moved my Roku box to the Switch to test out the Netfix video streaming and that worked great too. Setting up the GS105 switch takes almost no time, I just plugged in the power cord and ethernet cable from the XAV5004 to the GS105 and it started working. .All in all Powerline made my media area look like I was connected to my router. The switch gave me additional flexibility for connections. My house has wiring from the mid 1970's. My XAV5001 adapter connected to my router is on a different circuit than the XAV5004 connected to the living room appliances. It's definitely 5 stars for me.
