This works fine when plugged directly into a USB port directly on the computer (I was only able to use 3.0 as that's all I have on my computer) . Once plugged into any length USB extension cable (I've tried 6" and 3ft) it stops working. It does not show up as a device on the computer. To test, I tried a powered USB hub, which worked. This was not a suitable solution for me as it was not possible to use a different power cord. Spending a little more money for a well-known brand device is worth the money.
