I bought this air filter to replace the factory filter in my car. The reason I bought the WIX filter is because they have a reputation for making good filters. The main purpose of an air filter is to filter out large and small particles from the air entering the engine. Dirt, even very small particles, can damage the engine and lead to premature failure. So how does WIX filter the air? I saw a test of how well different air filters actually filter the air. The WIX filter was the best at filtering both large and small particles out of the air. Because of this, it also had a high airflow resistance, which meant that the amount of air passing through the filter was reduced. Most people believe that this will cause engine performance issues. However, they also tested this and found no performance hit in acceleration time compared to other filters except one. The only filters that actually increased acceleration time were oil soaked cotton filters (you know the brand) because they had very little airflow resistance. However, they also had the worst air filtration of any filter tested (of many). So when choosing between a very small increase in acceleration or protecting my engine from damage, I choose Protection. The WIX filter does a great job of doing this, which is why I bought it.
