I needed an inexpensive but good quality DVD drive for my netbook. After some research, I've narrowed down the choice between Asus and LG. Asus was $30 cheaper but didn't have a light rib like LG. This feature wasn't important to me (I have other backlit drives and very rarely, if ever, use this feature), so I went with Asus. The drive comes with installation software, a stand (so you can mount it vertically), and a reversible USB cable. If you need more power to run the drive, use both ends of the USB and it will double the power. So far I've only used ONE end and had no trouble starting the drive. The drive looks very modern and is no bigger than a DVD or CD. It won't fit in your pocket, but it will easily fit in your pocket or netbook case. The case is very shiny, black like a piano, and fingerprints remain on it. Installation was easy, just plug and play. (You will need your own DVD playback software as it is not included with the software) I use Nero to burn my discs. I've recorded about 50 discs, mostly CDs, with no complaints. not a single stand. I've also burned multiple single layer and dual layer DVDs with the same results. In summary, this is a reliable compact DVD/CD recorder with excellent performance. For the money you can't go wrong.
