Review on πŸ”Œ D-Link DIR-632 Wireless-N 8-Port Router: Discontinued by Manufacturer but Still Packs a Powerful Punch! by Tim Curd

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Eight ethernet ports, USB port, easy setup, high speed and great performance!

This D-Link DIR-632 works well for my purposes. When my old 802.11b D-Link didn't work with the new iPod Touch I got for Christmas, I started looking for a new router. None of them had enough ethernet ports for my needs, and most of them didn't have a USB port for a printer. Most highly rated WiFi routers have been dual band routers, which I don't need as I don't have any devices that can use the second 5GHz band. A dual-band router significantly increases the cost of a wireless router. Then I discovered the DIR-632 which I've been using for a month now and couldn't be happier. It was easy to install and worked flawlessly with my 3 wifi devices, my 6 ethernet devices and my USB printer all running at the same time. Of course, it also greatly increased my network speed compared to my old D-Link. I only have two minor complaints. The installation wizard only installs medium security. You must manually enable the highest security settings. However, these features are well documented and didn't take long to install. The USB printer option uses a port called SharePort, which must be installed on every PC and is another background process that consumes CPU cycles. It doesn't work with all printers, but it works fine with my Canon inkjet printer. Router with USB port for printer/drive. It works well with my Windows 7 and Windows XP PCs, Apple iPod Touch 4G and other 802.11g, 802.11n and Ethernet WiFi devices.
