Great bark remover, but hold on!

This sanding disc is great for quickly removing stubborn bark from tree trunks. I use it to strip the bark off an urban red oak tree that my neighbor removed. The tree was felled just before the optimal time to peel off the bark, so the dippers and cultivators did little with it. However, this tool can get the job done! It took me 15 minutes to debark the one log shown in the photo and so far I've done about 10 and it's still stronger. However, there are a few important caveats to consider before purchasing: 1) You need a side-handle angle grinder and you must be strong enough to drive the angle grinder. This thing is one stubborn mustang, especially when you hit a knot. You don't want the grinder to fly out of your hands and potentially hit you. Always use the protective cover on the coffee grinder. 2) You need protective equipment. I wear chainsaw goggles and a helmet with face and ear protection. Gloves are included but they are slippery. I don't think they help prevent injury at 10,000rpm so I don't use them. I can protect my feet better when I have a better grip! If you hit loose bark or stuck gravel, they will be flung across the room. 3) It comes with a flanged nut, but the holes are too close together for standard wrenches. You need to make your own wrench or buy a special one. I made my own by drilling two holes in an aluminum U channel and inserting two heavy duty machine screws. You should get it pretty tight. It is best to place the nut with the flat side down as shown in the picture. Otherwise, the workpiece may be scratched. 4) This thing is powerful and leaves deep grooves in the wood. I'm working with wood masonry, so I'm only concerned with the look of the ends of the logs. But if you want the bark to be visible, think about how to get rid of the uneven look (or maybe accept it, it looks "rough hewn"). 5) I'm giving this item 4 stars instead of 5 because I'm not sure why they couldn't just accommodate the wheel with a standard flanged nut. This is the main complaint from most reviewers and having a custom size like this is a hassle! Hopefully in version 2.0 the creators get some standard grinders and make sure everything fits just right.
