The Best Non-Contact Tester
Amprobe is trusted in the industry and has been in use for many years. As an industrial electrician, I carried one of these in my shirt pocket. This isn't necessarily a troubleshooting tool, more of a safety tool that lets you know if voltage is present. Best of all, it's always on, no buttons, no auto shut down compared to some other manufacturers. You can just rub it on your shirt sleeve to check if the battery is good, it's glowing and the battery life is great. It's rated at 1kV, so it's safe to use on 480V circuits. It's also not too sensitive if you're testing cables in a J-box.
