I went with a brand name and not one of the cheaper models with similar features. Never had a pump, but any car needs a new supercharger if you keep it going long enough. A pump and refill cost more than this pump (including freon and oil). Easy setup, quiet, good vacuum cleaner. I didn't check the ultimate vacuum as my gauges aren't the best, but the needle was basically tied to the max vacuum level. The repair was: Automotive - new compressor, all new gaskets on all nodes, a complete flushing of the remains, a new suction / pressure hose, a new collector-dryer). After sitting for an hour with no change in vacuum, I added enough R134a to run the compressor and fully charged the system. Even with new parts (all AC Delco - double what I could have paid) plus tools I didn't have (flush kit, flush, that pump), the cost of a simple compressor replacement was half the dealer's cost. After use I changed the oil in the pump - after 45 minutes of use it turned from transparent to noticeably yellow. Easy to switch, just follow the instructions. This is a cheap simple service. I can't comment on durability as I've only used it once. Much quieter than the previous pump I borrowed.
