I worked in a building where astronomical amounts were being spent on geothermal heating. Well, geothermal isn't showing the promised return on investment, so those in power decided that we would definitely show the savings. How you do that? Very simple: lower the thermostat in winter and raise it in summer. We save money no matter how cold/hot it is in this building. What are those people doing? Of course, break out personal heaters. Well, it's not allowed and you don't want to get caught doing it; Strangely, heating pads and blankets are allowed, find out. Looking for a gap I figured a heating pad would do. I don't need to heat a large area directly under my desk as that is enough to keep me warm. The only problem is that I didn't want a bright glow under my desk to draw my attention and draw attention. That's when I came across this thermal "radiator". Paired with a $4 heat lamp I already had hanging in the garage, this thing is great. Using my IR heat gun, I measured a surface temperature of 449 degrees Fahrenheit. I was amazed that it got so hot. Of course, there is no fan, so the temperature at the time of heat dissipation is already far from it. However, under my desk, it warms the room well and keeps me warm, even with cold air blowing at me from the ceiling vents all day. There is a larger heat source when you want more heat. As far as I can tell, the vast majority of the heat is radiated from the front of the disc. I have it in the correct heat lamp arrangement so heat from the back isn't an issue, but it's still nice that the heat is concentrated in the front. And there is no visible light. You can't see from the outside whether it's on or off. The hard drive is smaller than I expected. Although the sizes are listed I was expecting something larger for some reason. This is the right size for what is listed and works great so no worries. This is a heat lamp, so common sense (and all correct warnings) tells you that you should NOT use it in anything other than the proper heat lamp assembly/fixture. As it gets (very) hot, you NEED protection to prevent foreign objects from touching the surface. I plugged it in at home to test before taking it to work. I'm glad I did as it gave off a terrible smell until it ran for about an hour. Luckily after the smell has gone, the smell is gone. I know this isn't meant to be a staff warmer, but if you're in a situation where typing with gloves on isn't good, this could be your "no heaters". valid loop. After freezing my ass off all winter, I wish I had bought this thing a lot sooner.
