I'm not a DVR expert so I can't compare this to any other company's product or even to previous Thinkware products. However, I can share my impressions as a regular user who is not an enthusiast. In addition to the main DVR, I also bought a mounting kit and a polarizing filter. Problems arose during installation, but they were not related to this product. It was just hard to find fuses in my car's fuse box that were both switchable and non-switchable that the fuse tap would fit. I'm still working on it and the parking mode doesn't work yet. Again, this is a setup issue. I'm asking a friend who is more knowledgeable about wiring to help out soon and I expect to sort this out. The rest of the installation was successful. Operation is about as expected. As in the first case, the functions and settings are inconvenient and not intuitive. I looked at the manuals for about half a dozen models before buying this one and they all seem to have awkward UI issues. This one is no exception. However, I don't intend to collect videos on a regular basis. I just want to write it down in case I ever need to prove what happened in a traffic accident, so I don't care. I'd really like to turn on the blinking blue light that says it's not connected to the internet. I don't need it to be connected to the internet when I'm driving, nor do I need it to blink at me to tell me. It seems like it should be easy to turn it off in settings, but Thinkware didn't give me that option. The picture quality seems to be pretty good. The last DVR I owned was HD (1280 x 1024) and this one is just over QHD (2560 x 1440). The video is a bit sharper here (I compared a few clips), but both were pretty good. I grabbed a random daylight clip from an SD card and tried to see the license plates on vehicles ahead and past me in the other direction. Before that there were no problems. It wasn't as clear with passing cars, but I could see them and that was all that mattered. The viewing angle seems right to me; I can clearly see vehicles at intersections and such, so it should pick up on the neighborhood if something happens. Haven't ridden it at night yet to see what these videos look like. In the summer it's light from about 5am to 9pm and I've never ridden outside of those times. I'll find out in the winter when the days get very short. Overall I am very satisfied with the product. It's nice, small and stylish, so it looks good in my car. A 128K microSD card was required, giving me plenty of room to record. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone else, although I also don't think other quality products would likely do it as well. .
