The insert is not food safe. Black, not transparent.

Arrived in a clear plastic bag with a label saying they were clear but clearly all were black. The set included decent quality stainless steel screws but the legs have a steel insert that the screw goes through which is NOT stainless steel. I used it on a cutting board and the black color suits me. The insert is easy to remove so I pulled them out to keep them from rusting or ruining the board. You just don't want to over tighten the screws without inserting them or you could deform and eventually break the "hard" rubber foot.
