Honestly I didn't think this thing would work but for the price it does. of course I would try that. I should have ordered a few more. This item is AMAZING. I love it. Skip all other squares and you have beautiful pieces. (By the way, I really hate chopping onions. I hate the taste and smell of onions on my hands.) My hands don't smell that bad, it's easier to cut and easy to clean (off in the dishwasher and you're done). I will say that you either need to take a small piece from the bottom of the onion. (where the onion will rest on the cutting board) or cut the onion in half as the onion is round and will curl up. and this device will not prevent that. so that the bow can slip. I also used this for potatoes. That's cool. Have to try other vegetables. Might get another one.
