Review on Diskless Synology πŸ’Ύ DS218j 2-Bay NAS DiskStation by Minoru Taguchi ᠌

Good quality product, the price is commensurate with the quality.

In general, a good device that works great. Out of the box, it has a fairly large set of applications, in principle, covering all the needs of a home NAS user. Of the direct positives, one can note the work of support. They respond quickly, the answer is written in two languages. I liked the support. Some pros: Small size for a two drive device. Completely silent. Cooler settings minimum performance. The soft shell, the operating system is not bad at all, quite nicely simple, visual, understandable. At work, we use a large synology on many disks, there is the same OS, with the same graphical interface. I really liked that out of the box it was found at disksttion: 5000, as in the instructions. I confess I did not believe that it would work. Hot swapping works great. Has cons: Could not solve the problem of synchronization of two directories. I wanted to have a couple of copies of the same directory on different disks without creating a raid1. The solution is simple, saves disk space, allows you to use different disks. In general, everyone would be fine if it worked, but the built-in rsync can only synchronize data from different devices. This surprised me a little, it would seem a fairly typical task. Contacting support didn't help much. They suggested using the standard hyper backup backup mechanism. And that's not exactly it. I'm thinking of looking through the ssh configuration of rsync . But just so that I don't have to deal with all this at home, I bought Synology, I wanted a boxed working solution.
