My old DOCSIS 2.0 (1x1) Motorola SB5101U had a download speed of 17Mbps and an upload speed of 1.75Mbps /s on my current/new HS internet account with 100 megabits/s D/L and 5 megabits/s U/L dedicated channels (24 x 4). So I thought about upgrading with Linksys CM3024 DOCSIS 3.0 (24 x 8). The first digit indicates the download channels (24) and the second digit (8) indicates the download channels. The higher the number, the better. If you look at the pictures, you can see that the Linksys CM3024 is significantly inferior in download speed (up to 960Mbps upload speed) - only 13.5Mbps, which is SLOWER than my old DOCSIS . 2.0 at just over 17Mbps and works pretty much as expected - maybe a bit higher on the download side of 5.79Mbps with my current ISP account. , according to some statements, has serious problems with "lag". This has resulted in many cable modems, including the Linksys CM3024, being placed on do not use lists. As far as I can tell, there is currently no fix for this problem, and you won't see the advertised speeds this modem is pushing. (See UPDATE: below) I am returning a Linksys modem and have (after further research) ordered a NETGEAR CM500 (16 x 4) which DOES NOT have an Intel Puma 6 chip and will be happy to report back on the performance of the new modem when I get mine internet provider available. UPDATE: I received a NETGEAR CM500 (which does not have an Intel Puma 6 chip). I fully followed the instructions to provide it to my ISP, including connecting your modem DIRECTLY to the computer, not through a router. I ran a speed test on DSLREPORTS; Results posted as third picture (106 Mbit/s D/L, 5 Mbit/s U/L) - SWEET! I reconnected everything including my VPN router (key point here) and ran the speed test again. The results are shown in Figure 4 (21 Mbps D/L, 4.78 Mbps U/L) β Whoo! I did some more research and it turns out that some people are claiming that the VPN tunnel reduces bandwidth, which is what I see. CONCLUSION: Given the problem with a VPN router, a complete/accurate test of 3 modems, the original DOCSIS 2.0 and 2 DOCSIS 3.0 modems had to be connected via a direct connection between the computer, the modem and the ISP. I'm glad there was a speed issue as I didn't know about the Intel Puma 6 chip and the Linksys CM3024 latency issue because I wouldn't do the research. I have already returned the Linksys and cannot redeploy it for a proper speed test. I think a speed test would be good. But I think I'd still return it for a non-Intel Puma 6 modem. I am upgrading my rating for this Linksys CM 3024 modem to 3.5.
