Arrived quickly. The rings are smooth but not polished. I think they will be polished with sweat and use. No problems with splinters. I'm taking off a star because the straps aren't the dimensions other brands suggest. The straps and cams hold my 200 pounds with no problem. In defense of the issue: A. I saw a review that criticized rings for falling apart in an outdoor gym. The rings are made of unsealed plywood and are not designed to be permanently outdoors all day. If you have an outdoor gym, get plastic rings! B. Several people complained that the cams on the straps broke during use. When you insert the straps into the cams, they should feed in from the bottom and come out the front. No pressure should be applied to the cam levers. So I'm a bit at a loss as to how they broke in the first place. I suspect these reviewers misconfigured theirs (see my photo)
