Review on πŸ‘™ O'Neill Women's Siren USCG-Approved Life Vest by Sam Lund

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Nearly perfect! GF loves his new vest!

I bought the same O'Neill range for me and my girlfriend. Both are identical except that the men's version doesn't have the ruffle design at the front and back. We both love it! We tried on different models, including those from Body Glove and Stearns. This is the model we saved! Pros: - Sturdy construction - Hidden strap system - Quality and strong stitching, zips and buckles - Sides fit very well - Design is very modern and professional - Safety zip with Velcro - Good security feature - Lumbar support feels AMAZING! Sometimes I just wear this to my office when I have lower back issues. Sounds crazy, but it's awesome! The design is stylish, feminine and high-tech. I have looked at some of the Body Gloves and they are very youthful in design. Cons: - Runs about 1-2 sizes too small, although USCGA vests are supposed to be snug (because they stretch a bit when wet), they definitely fit. on the small side. It's better to have it a little tighter than the 'perfect fit' otherwise it DEFINITELY lifts when you're in the water and is very uncomfortable against your chin all the time. My boyfriend is 5ft 3in and weighs about 105lbs. Usually she is very small or small in Banana Republic but size 10 fits her with it (we bought 6/8/10). If you are unsure, simply buy 2 sizes larger than you normally wear. - No small key pocket, USCG Body Glove Vests have this feature. When renting lockers at beach resorts, it's nice to have a safe place for your keys. - No, USCG Body Glove Vests have a plastic loop to organize an extra belt. A 1 star review on this vest complaining that it is too small is very helpful. Just return and get a 2 size bigger, problem solved. :) UPDATE: We tested this series in Cozumel and it swam with color flight! Because it's not a foam vest, it's compact enough to pack in the outside compartment of our checked baggage. I zipped the compartment to keep it secure. My girlfriend can't swim but this gave her the confidence to snorkel a considerable distance from shore (50ft!). It looked beautiful and flattering on her, which is always nice! Between snorkeling sessions we left it beside us to dry, turning it the other way every few hours and it was dry enough before returning to our cruise ship Allure of the Seas. Highly recommended! The vests are of a much better quality than those available for rent at the resorts for nearly $10. I didn't want to risk a cheap vest because my girlfriend can't swim. Regarding the 1 star reviews here, if they give this product 1 star for being too small then ignore them. First, USCGA vests stretch in water. Second, you want to choose a vest that fits your body snugly, not perfectly, not a little bit loose, but snug. The reason for this is that the vest has more buoyancy than your body. So if it's not snug, it will float up and be very uncomfortable, even interfering with your mobility in the water. Watch a YouTube video on choosing a life jacket and see for yourself. Third, lumbar support works best when it's snug. You pay a lot of money for the lumbar support (it's worth it, by the way), so use it properly. And the last word: just buy a size or two larger than you normally wear. Try two sizes up and if it fits perfectly, downsize. Remember, you want him to be comfortable.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Non automatic
