Review on Variegated Nature Ultra Yoga Mat From Hugger Mugger - Enhanced Cushion, Durability, Sticky Grip, Non-Slip Surface, Lightweight Design. by John Snook

Nice entry-level mat.

I got this light-weight mat for my beau. I use a thin, heavy warhorse mat (the Hugger Mugger Tapas Performance) which I adore for its stability and lack of squishiness. I test-drove this lighter mat during a Bikram class (with a YogiToes towel over top; you definitely need something, but that's the case with any mat for hot yoga). It has a subtle squishiness, but won't be "cushy" enough for someone who needs extra padding for their joints (ie, during Pigeon). For me, that's a plus: less cushioning means greater stability and less chance to hurt yourself wobbling out of a pose.I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of vertical or horizontal stretching for such a light-weight, portable mat. It's very well-made. The colors are lovely, as well. This probably won't survive a very long time for someone who's a mat-shredder, but as a travel mat or for someone getting into yoga, this is a fantastic, inexpensive option.

Pros
  • Mats
Cons
  • May be too heavy to easily transport to and from yoga classes
