Review on πŸ”’ Secure Your Cargo with Thule Load Straps for Roof Mount Racks by Nicholas Erickson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A well thought out and executed design which, despite years of opportunity, was never followed up.

I have been using these straps for over 5 years now. They cost a little more than average and the technique that makes them better is simple. However, nobody else has considered these simple common sense design aspects. It seems like only Thule employees have ever actually used their product enough to design it well. 1)Each side of the strap is easily distinguishable from the other along its entire length, letting you know if it is twisted or upside down. 2) The cam teeth are asymmetrical to better grip the tape. 3) The tape itself is quite heavy, easy to handle, easy to untangle, etc. 4) If the end melts at an angle, not only will it not unravel, it will also form a hard spot. Much easier to insert through the buckle than others. After years of heavy use and accidental damage (like a dog nibbled on it and kept using it for years after that) I've replaced my original pair and added a few more to my collection to replace the less expensive belts that never worked like this Good. The original pair never let me down, I only pinched because a few random nicks rubbed deep across the width of the straps in multiple places. They withstood the constant stress of the elements and the sun along the way.

Pros
  • Best in its niche
