Review on AEM 21 506R Cold Intake System by Brandon Garrett

Revainrating 5 out of 5

In the end it's worth it.

Bought for my 2004 Type S and overall very happy with it. The installation instructions are surprisingly detailed in some places and completely absent in other places. (It jumps from removing the inner fender wall and removing the windshield washer reservoir to having the entire pipe already installed and installed. (If you're interested, run it through the wheel well, but I've found it's on its own).) What the As for cold air intake, the difficulty in this particular case is probably 8 out of 10. It took me and a buddy about 5 full hours to do this (probably 45 minutes of that time was wasted searching). for tools), but that is a very deep process as far as air intake is concerned. It requires cutting the inner fender plastic on the rider's front wheel (nothing crazy, I did this without removing the fender plastic). It's wise to have a few extra brackets on hand in case you accidentally damage them while removing the wheel arch plastic. There will be about 4 inches of visible entrance and the rest is hidden unless you're really looking for it. I was okay with this because the paint on these air intakes is very brittle and I regally scraped %@#$ out of my air intake trying to put it back on. In terms of performance, there's a very real difference in sound. Engine. If you drive slowly and don't step on the gas too hard you won't be able to tell the difference, but if you step on the gas hard the engine makes a very nice low growl. My friend compared it to my Suzuki 650 which had a whistle from two brothers. The machine isn't too loud, but definitely noticeable. In terms of performance, the only thing I've noticed is a bit more torque low down, something these cars seem a bit lacking. So the torque before you hit vtec is actually a bit better. There's also a much more noticeable difference in sound when the Vtec is on. The only problem I see. The intake is very, very low. It is located just behind the lower air vents on the front bumper. About 12 inches off the ground. If you're afraid of soaking up water, buy the Injen HydroShield. I did this. If you're looking for something more flashy and less performant (and also something more secure), check out Injen V2. Overall very happy with the product.
