Review on πŸ”§ Enhance Engine Performance with FRAM Extra Guard Air Filter CA10170 for Ford and Mercury Vehicles by Mark Callaham

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fits 2007 Mercury Mariner Hybrid

Ideal for 2007 Mercury Mariner Hybrid engines. There's NO reason to pay anyone else to do it. Lots of tutorial videos etc if you can't figure it out. The replaced filter didn't look too dirty, just a few spots on the corners of the fins. I thought it might be very dirty, like the filter in a bagless vacuum or something. I shook it and no dust came out. But I immediately noticed a difference in engine performance with the new filter. The engine started to run smoother, even when idling, especially at high revs. MUCH more power and noticeably more MPG (according to the car's diagnostic system). It seemed to be somewhere between 1.5 and 2.5 mpg when driving a moderate distance both in the city (NY) and on the freeway. The next time I fill up, I'll know exactly because the on-board surveillance system isn't very precise, but usually not that far away. So even if you think you don't need a new one, and especially if you don't know when yours was last replaced, just do it. The box says 12000 km. I last changed about 5,000 miles (about a year) ago. For the price I probably do this every six months or every oil change. I think it will translate into gas savings ($4 per gallon).

Pros
  • 12,000 mile drain intervals prevent loss of acceleration and power and improve overall performance
Cons
  • So-so
