Great GPS with some minor flaws

Overall this is a fantastic GPS for the money. It is relatively small and can easily be carried in a pocket or purse. There is no external antenna that could be folded out to improve reception. The most important thing about a GPS device is its ability to quickly find a signal and get to the places you want. In that regard, this device is just great. GPS signal acquisition time is approximately less than 30 seconds. It features one of the new SIRF III chipsets, which is very important to get a good signal. The device quickly calculates directions and quickly recalculates when necessary. It doesn't support text-to-speech, so it doesn't say the street names you need to specify, nor does it display the name of the street you're on while navigating. You sometimes have to look at the screen when navigating, you can't completely rely on the sound. The appearance of the screen is well thought out. However, it's a bit spartan in terms of map markers. As said, it doesn't show you the street you're on when navigating, just the street you should turn onto. When you're driving in an unfamiliar place, it takes a little leap of faith that you're on the right road. This warns you before turning in the form of multiple warnings. Using GPS is very simple. The touchscreen is relatively easy to find for any use. One small downside: you can't easily mute the device, turn down the volume, or quickly turn up the volume. I think the main issue with this device has been pointed out in several other reviews: the suction cup issue. The suction cup really comes in handy and sometimes the block would fall off while driving. I know this device isn't very expensive, but that's a big issue and I think the company could do a better job of attaching a better suction cup like you find in Garmin devices. there's a better sucker, but it's a little hard to find online; It's for sale on eBay but the ones I've seen should be shipping from London. As for the Bluetooth feature, I don't find it particularly useful. I believe this requires a subscription to TomTom weather or traffic services. Finally, unlike Garmin devices and devices from several other brands, TomTom doesn't have nearly as many points of interest. If you're using this device while shopping to find stores, it's simply not possible. Not enough sights. So keep that in mind as this is the main benefit of Garmin devices. I've used a Garmin i5 before and it had a lot more cool stuff. In the end I found the best value for money with the Nextar c3 (also available on Revain.com). For less money the Nextar came with a much better suction cup, a remote control (although I don't plan on using it), the same number of POIs, a carrying case (soft) and an increase in data collection by around 30-60 seconds. Satellite signal time compared to TomTom (i.e. Nextar took a bit longer to find a satellite signal, but one day I found it locked in pretty well. That 30-60 second increase wasn't a big deal to me) compared to TomTom. However, if you buy a TomTom, you won't regret much. There are many good GPS devices out there these days and the TomTom is still a great GPS device despite its minor flaws. FYI, TomTom's other major competitor is the Garmin Nuvi 350.
