Review on ๐Ÿ“ป Tram 1411 Broadband Discone/Scanner Base Antenna by Leroy Jacobs

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Model 1410 (one level down) is better for scanner users.

Well I compared this to a TRAM 1410 antenna ($8 cheaper) and blindly decided to step up. The 1410 turned out to be exactly what I needed and the long spool loading top and matched radials were meant for CB transmission only. I only hear through a scanner or SDR so I don't need those features. In fact, I think the extra baggage is affecting my VHF/UHF reception, so I'm actively considering sawing off the center-loaded coil to make it a simple discone like the TRAM 1410. I removed the coil cover and it would be easy to cut the coil, it's not easy to remove and weatherproof the coil form. I can just cut the coil and screw the top back on. Do not buy this model if you only need a broadband scanner RX antenna!

Pros
  • practical thing
Cons
  • disappears

The 1410 (one sterp below) is a better deal for scanner users.
