update disappears two days after my first check. After further consideration, I am changing this rating drastically. I really want to love this watch, but it really gets on my nerves. By the way, I still think this is the best hybrid available. I'm so confused! I'm so annoyed with the software for this watch that I downgraded it to three until Fossil fixes it (I'll up it to four stars then). I'm not sure if this watch was mature enough to be released. But it might work. Programmatically fixable (hopefully) issues: 1. How the heck do you make the light stay on all the time? you can snip it wipe it with your (other) hand, anything. I just can't get it to continue consistently. POOH! My guess is that this isn't a hardware issue and that Fossil can improve sensitivity. How do you know tomorrow's weather? I can get the weather forecast for today and three days in two days, but I can't find the weather forecast for tomorrow anywhere.3. Let me reverse the text/background. It would be a lot easier for me and my old eyes to see if it were just upside down. File everything like this during notifications. let me choose Shouldn't be difficult. If you have young eyes, this may not be a problem. I have a very hard time reading notifications due to the white on black selection (which I can't change). Serious hardware issue preventing this watch from getting five stars from me: I'm not sure they use older e-ink technology or anything. Contrast isn't as good as the Kindle Paperwhite. (Note: According to one of the answers to a question about this product, the crystal is brown in brown. This reduces the contrast.) and now my previous review (with some changes as it contradicted what I entered above). Here's a better summary of my opinion on smartwatches, their features, etc. ——————————— I've had this watch for about two weeks now. I love this watch and consider it to be arguably the best smartwatch I have ever owned due to my penchant for features. I really like hybrid smartwatches. I want a watch with real hands. I need days or weeks between charges. I want a watch that looks like a regular watch. I'd like a watch that I can just glance at to see what the message was or who's calling or whatever. I don't want a watch that has apps built in or that hears "Hey Google" or has games or anything like that. If you like these things, look elsewhere. It doesn't work on Android/Google Wear, Rizen, Pebble or the like. I've been using Withings Steel HR for a long time. It almost matched the bill. The problem was that the display was too small. When a notification popped up, I had to stare at it for a long time and watch it scroll. Very rude when talking to anyone. I liked the watch, but for such behavior I would give 4 stars. I was waiting for something that would solve this problem. So, after a long wait, I received this watch. The watch meets the requirements. This gives nice notifications that I can quickly check. It has a long battery life. This is a good looking watch, not a smart watch. Let me break them down further for you: Good: 1. Appearance: Looks like a watch. Nice watch. Not the sexiest thing I've ever owned, but a beautiful watch. Doesn't look like a smartwatch. It's not incredibly big. Information on the display is not visible due to the dark background. Hooray! 2. Battery Life: This watch conforms to the manufacturer's specifications. I think it might even be better than advertised. I don't get that many notifications so my usage may be low, but after a week it easily exceeded 50%. Hooray.3. Notifications: FINALLY! I can (almost) see what the notification is without clicking a button or waiting for it to scroll. Hooray.4. Special Features: The specs on this thing are beyond what I need. I like the weather (more on that in the cons section). I like the fact that it can control music (I don't use that feature). I love the fact that I can call my phone if I lost it on the couch. Hooray! 5. Very cool: I like what they made with their hands. When you do something with it, the arrows point to 3 and 9, so you can see all parts of the screen that contain information. Fabulous! Besides, you can have it like this that your hands make a rotation when you twist/move your wrist. It looks cool and allows you to see every element on the screen. It has always bothered me that a "real smartwatch" still displays the date when you set it up with virtual analog hands. Just let me see the date! This watch lets you always see. MARVELOUS! Cons: 1. Responsiveness: This watch is electronic ink. Electronic ink is not fast. Be patient and understand that e-ink is not an adaptive technology yet.2. Light: I can't figure out how to leave the light on all the time. still working on it If I figure out the trick I'll update this review. The beat on the clock is stronger, isn't it? Clicking on it with your finger is illogical. If you click on it at the top you'll see a weird crowd (people will say "what did you just do?"), it seems to be happening fairly constantly. 3: UI: This is pretty weird. When a notification pops up, you need to press the center button to see more of it. Why the hell can't you just use the top and bottom buttons to scroll it right away? Disabling notifications is weird too. It seems like the best way is to just hold the middle button down for a bit. 4: Use by an elderly person: I am about (the_current_year - 1973) years old now. My eyes aren't what they used to be. Sometimes it's a little hard to see what's going on, especially with light text on a dark background, resulting in: 5: Personalization: Why can't I switch from white text on black to black on white text? Watching would be a lot easier. It may not look as sexy, but I'm sure it will be easier to use. 6: Weather: Can't understand. It appears to be showing an extended forecast starting in two days. It is Friday. I want to see the weather for the weekend. Does it show me the weather since Sunday? where is saturday Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place but they obviously didn't put it there. (Note that weather is a feature that exceeds my needs, but it's really nice. I don't care what the weather is like the next day for now!) As you can see, I definitely have some complaints about it. This might be a deal killer for you, but for me it's the best there is. They look like a regular watch, give decent notifications, and have long battery life. This is what I want. If a better hybrid comes out I will switch to it, but I don't think that will happen any time soon. but for me it's the best there is.
