Review on SainSmart 1.75mm Filament Printing Natural: Superior Quality and Precision by Austin Arvayo

Maybe this is my new favorite thread

That's a real deal. This review was written after I printed with nylon and carbon fiber filaments for the first time. I needed something permanent to build functional parts that would wear out. Nylon mixed with carbon fiber seemed to make sense. Nylon is known for its durability, while carbon fiber provides extra rigidity. After my first functional print I couldn't be happier (see photos). Parts are hard and rigid but not brittle, strong and strong but not flexible. This material also has decent heat and chemical resistance (I work in a lab so that's good!). It's also relatively easy and accurate to print with, and has a good strength-to-weight ratio. I have nothing to complain about. The manufacturer recommends a 0.6mm hardened steel nozzle, but I have used a 0.4mm hardened steel nozzle and had no problems. My printer is QIDI X-one2 nozzle: 0.4mm MK10 style hardened steel!). Layer height: 0.2 mm. Printing temperature: 250°C. Printing temperature: 80°C for the first layer / 70°C for the next (glue stick works well). Print speed: 12mm/s for the first layer / 30mm/s for the next (I haven't tried to print faster yet). Travel speed: 100mm/s. Retract Distance: 1.5mm (Retract works well on this filament). Retraction speed: 30 mm/sec. Wall Thickness: 1.2mm Top and bottom layers: 5 each. .I used edge and line supports with a top and no bottom, which were actually easier to remove than most PLA prints. The surface of the parts was surprisingly smooth, even where the supports had been removed. No filing was necessary, but steel picks were useful. Post processing was minimal. The ONLY thing I wanted was for the thread to be cheaper and in more colors and varieties. But SainSmart is cheaper than the competition (Nylon carbon, PLA carbon and PETG carbon don't count). It's hard to complain about the price. I'm happy with that. I think this will be my route to functional parts.
