Review on πŸ’‘ Powermaster 48237 High-Amp Alternator: Optimize Your Power Output by Todd Stovall

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Overview and tips

According to the description, it does not fit my car. I suspected this information was FALSE, and it was. I called Powermaster to make sure I ordered the right model (1998 Chevy Tahoe). The technician assured me it was the right model for my car. He also made sure I didn't need an adapter plug (hint if your Chevy's plug is square instead of oval, you'll need an adapter). This thing is big. I won't lie I tried my best to get this monster to sit on the stand where it belongs and it's literally pushing against the AC line hose. With the help of my strong rubber mallet and strong words, the alternator finally lowered enough to tighten the bolts. This model is rated for 140 amps when idle and up to 220 amps when moving. Here are some helpful tips (BEFORE YOU BEGIN): 1.) You MUST (read this again) upgrade your power cord to 4AWG. 3/8" power connection. 2.) If your vehicle does not currently have a separate ground wire, you do not need to add one. If you have a separate ground, cut the alternator power wire from the wiring harness and use it as a ground to buck save (you only need a copper wire so take the alternator and wire to the auto shop and have them put the correct size on the wire if you don't have the tool) .3.) Measure the pulley They say they need a longer belt For my truck I didn't do this To be honest if the pulley is a different size I highly recommend just getting this job done in the dealership lot several times ago to get the correct belt. Finally, be nice to the next car owner and note on your car which service items you replaced from stock. These require a different part number and are placed in the Ha put in the shoe compartment.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful
