Not suitable for 2.2L engine on S10/Sonoma/Hombre

I ordered it for my 2000 GMC Sonoma 2.2L. Unfortunately, the Powermaster alternator is physically larger than the standard factory alternator. A small part of the motor is in the way and I couldn't unscrew the second mounting screw. I had to go to my local auto parts store and buy a genuine alternator. The standard was screwed on and worked without any problems. Probably fits most other cars. But with my 2.2l engine it didn't fit my Sonoma. It's a shame. I was looking forward to the extra…

Nothing but trouble after installing this alternator

Because of this alternator, my truck constantly had a code P1635 indicating an error with the ECM readings. I replaced everything I could think of and it never went away (until I replaced this device with another brand). It would also say that the battery will not charge when the truck is started, but will quickly stop showing the error and return to normal. Eventually the whole block died while driving, the voltage dropped at a slow but constant rate until the whole car died overnight. I had…

but does not include an easily accessible ground point

Installation documentation states that you must install additional grounding, but does not provide an easily accessible ground point or instructions. This is not usually a problem since you are simply grounding the generator chassis, but trying to use the bolts holding the block together as a ground will cause a problem. The screw heads are uniquely designed and cannot be removed unless unscrewed (and possibly removed). I also suspect that doing this will void your warranty since you're…

Overview and tips

According to the description, it does not fit my car. I suspected this information was FALSE, and it was. I called Powermaster to make sure I ordered the right model (1998 Chevy Tahoe). The technician assured me it was the right model for my car. He also made sure I didn't need an adapter plug (hint if your Chevy's plug is square instead of oval, you'll need an adapter). This thing is big. I won't lie I tried my best to get this monster to sit on the stand where it belongs and it's literally…

  • Excellent overall performance
