I bought these because there were staff on several online forums who called them the "best" and most universal praised . They all conceded that the price was high and that they might not even have the durability of some other tools, but insisted that once you use them you will agree that they are the best. At the time, I didn't understand exactly what this tool was designed for. This is not a replacement for regular pliers. It's more of a wrench replacement/replacement. The jaws remain parallel during movement and have no teeth. They are designed for use on hex bolts/nuts. This ability to make a strong connection with pliers can be very helpful and prevent damage to the fastener. However, you cannot use them to grab a smooth pipe. The adjustment mechanism involves a button on a spring that feels flimsy but can be good enough. It can become looser and more user-friendly over time, but for me it's not easy to tune on a new instrument. The review process here assesses versatility, value and ergonomics. I give 3/5 on all three. As a targeted replacement for the sickle key, I could rate it higher. I don't know if other brands make similar parallel jaw adjustable pliers. So if they're the only thing that makes them the best, then I think that might as well be true. I mention all this for those who are unfamiliar with the product and can assume from the pictures that it is the same as any other adjustable wrench as it looks the same. Knipex also makes other types and these may be the best choices depending on your needs.
