I installed a new water softener. The conditioner came with 2 test strips, but I bought those too. The test strips that came with the water softener showed hard water when it was hard (garden hose not soft) and soft water a day or two after starting the water softener. These store-bought strips still indicate hard water, although the supplied strips indicate soft water (and the water appears softened).
