I've started brewing coffee the old fashioned way and I wanted a kettle that could have a little more control over the pour. This one was better priced than other "specialty coffee makers" so I decided to give this one a try. I live in a highland area with an electric spiral cooker. What I like: This is a cute teapot that would look great in my kitchen. The brushed metal look is nice and stays fairly clean with minimal finger smudges. It has good balance when pouring water and easy to pour. The handle gets a little warm, but you can easily touch it with bare hands. It's easy to hear when the water is the right temperature, so I don't have to bake coffee or fiddle with a thermometer. I forgot this kettle doesn't have a whistle so I accidentally boiled water the second time around and although the whole kettle got terribly hot it survived the incident unscathed! Dislikes: Seems flimsy. Maybe I'm used to heavy, everyday teapots, but I was just amazed at how light and thin the metal is. I think it correlates to how well the kettle heats the water; It takes a little longer to boil water than my previous kettles. The bottom is also not entirely flat and has a few indentations here and there, which can also contribute to the water boiling slower than usual. but don't quote me, I'm not a scientist. I think for the money I was expecting something more substantial, and it has the same weight and feel as those cheap $5 metal teapots you buy at Walmart. However, this is also my first "special teapot" so they can all be like that. Maybe they're made light to make pouring easier? I do not know. It's also quite narrow, so cleaning the inside can be a bit of a hassle. The curve of the kettle and the high position of the spout also allow water to snag a little when pouring, requiring the kettle to be rocked back and forth a little to loosen the water. What annoyed me: the kettle came with a defect in the brushed steel. It's a quarter-sized discoloration just in front of the teapot where the brushed steel has become stained. Although not very noticeable, I paid $30 for it, so now thinking about the kettle makes me a little annoyed. However, this is such a minor downside that I don't think it's worth the hassle of sending the kettle back. I think I would give this kettle a 4 given the price compared to other more expensive branded coffee makers. " But it bugs me a little when I think about my brand new $30 coffee pot with a quarter sized stain [agonized sigh]. I can't help but give it a 3 to make me feel better."
