I've just started playing with this. So far, so good. The only thing I'm having a bit of trouble with is that the CH_PD pin needs to be set high for it to work independently of FTDI. The tutorials I've worked with don't mention this. I found several references to this issue in troubleshooting posts and blogs. It turns out that some units are made this way. It's not a big problem as long as you know about it.
