I bought this for my ID.4 after looking at other chargers available. Their smart version wasn't available back then, but I don't need them in my region because the tariffs are constant and there are no discounts for smart charging. It will cover just about any circuit you plug it into as it has a variable charge rate that can be set up to 40A with a DIP switch if you have a 50A circuit. Remember that you need to set EVSE to 80% of the maximum power the circuit has since it's a constant load. When I first got my unit I used a 14-50 to 14-30 adapter, set EVSE to 24A and charged from a dryer socket until I could set my circuit to 50A. It's well made, UL certified, and has options for colder climates like refills and longer cords. Compared to the price of other EVSE devices, this is a steal! Are you looking for other cheaper EVSE there? Sure, but they're not UL certified, they're made in Canada, and they're staffed by people who actually answer the phone and email. Buy this and you won't regret it. I spoke to the company and they told me that since the smart version is the same device with a daughter board attached to the motherboard, there would be an upgrade option for the "dumb" version. . They will sell the daughterboard as a plug and play upgrade.
