After spending many dollars on samples from various tile stick manufacturers, our favorite is the Yipscazo Ecru Slate Backsplash Stone Tile. All of the other tile decal samples we ordered mostly looked cheap and not durable. We use our kitchen area and wanted a tile that could take a little abuse and clean well. Another plus is that I wanted a tile that could be removed if I wanted to without having to replace the wall behind it. To test the product, I glued a sample to a piece of wall panel and removed the tile with a heat gun. Then I took a sample and rubbed it with a 00 steel wool to see how much damage it could take and it held up well, no visible damage. Now let's move on to the installation part. The tools I used were a cutting board, set square, ruler, spirit level, utility knife with lots of extra blades, straight and curved snips, and wire cutters. I hung 55 square feet of tile and it took about 12 hours. I started at the back corner and worked my way out. Since each of the tiles on the sheet is different, the hardest part was trying to slide the tiles together in two directions while gluing them to the wall. No matter how hard I tried, I had some gaps. I'm telling you, once you glue them in place, you won't move them! In the photos I posted I photographed the gaps before and after. I went to my local "Home Desperate" store and found some beige caulk and filled in all the big gaps, see second picture. The only negatives I had. It turns out that when they made it, they put wax paper between the sticky material and the tile and some of it wasn't removed. (2) One of my boxes of tiles was glossy and the rest were matte, the batch number was the same and yes I started installing before noticing the difference! In the end, we like the look of the tile, but it's not easy to install. My suggestion: (1) Sand and clean the mounting surface and fill in the major flaws. If you don't have a level surface, the tile won't lie flat. (2) I prime the wall with Zinsser Bulls Eye 1 2 3 and let it dry for 3 days before laying. I think you will have problems with gaps, some primers can add color so you don't see white on the back of the tile. (3) Remove the backing sheet from the back of the tiles while sticking them in place. (4) Take your time! Sometimes I'd take a tile and tape it in place if I wasn't sure how it would work before applying. MUCH LUCK!
